Hello Substack!

My name is Chris Maresco and welcome to Human Connection. A month ago, I decided that I was going to combine two desires of mine into one. The first was to start a new project called Human Connection. This project has been something I've wanted to do for a long time. The goal of the project is to share stories of humans and create connections around the world through it. 

I also had a desire since the war in Ukraine broke out on February 24th to volunteer and help out Ukrainian refugees (It is currently estimated that there are nearly 14 million Ukrainians refugees either in their own country or in surrounding countries.) during this war time. So May 15th, I packed a bag and headed to Poland to combine the two.  

The main goal of my trip was to meet and collect as many stories of Ukrainian refugees and volunteers on the ground. I worked with a Ukrainian while in Poland and together we collected nearly 200 stories over a two week span. Many heartbreaking stories were shared and many stories that were very emotional. But many people shared their stories and entrusted them to us. Why? Because they want the world outside Ukraine to hear what is really going on in their home country. 

If you want to follow along, I will be sharing stories twice a week on Monday and Thursday for the foreseeable future here on my Substack. Eventually, we will be sharing stories of other humans as well, but for now I believe the Ukrainians deserve our full attention.
